Cherwell End of Life: What does it mean?
About us
News

Cherwell Service Management reaches End of Life on 31 December 2026. After that date, Ivanti will no longer provide product support or updates for the platform.
If your organisation still runs Cherwell, this isn’t a distant deadline. It’s only a few months away, and the decisions you make now will shape how smooth (or how stressful) the transition turns out to be.
What End of Life actually means
Once support ends, so does everything that comes with it. No security patches. No bug fixes. No vendor assistance if something breaks. Your service desk keeps running, but the ground underneath it stops being maintained.
For most IT teams, that creates three problems at once:
- Security risk. Unpatched systems become easier targets, and auditors notice.
- Compliance risk. ISO 27001 and similar frameworks expect supported software. An EOL platform is a gap you’ll need to explain.
- Operational risk. When something goes wrong on an unsupported system, you’re troubleshooting alone.
Why planning now beats planning later
Migrations take time to do properly. Requirements gathering, data migration, workflow rebuilding, testing, training. Rushed timelines tend to produce rushed decisions, and rushed decisions in ITSM tend to be expensive ones.
Starting now gives you room to choose the right platform for your organisation, not just the fastest one to implement.
Your options
Migrate to a new platform. Whether you’re considering ServiceNow, Ivanti Neurons, Halo, Freshservice, or another option, the right platform depends on your organisation’s scale, integrations, and workflows. We help clients assess these factors properly.
Extend the life of your current Cherwell environment. Not every organisation is ready to migrate by December. If you need more time, we can provide extended operational support, platform health checks, and knowledge retention so your current setup stays stable while you plan your next move.
Get an independent assessment first. Before committing to either path, it helps to know exactly where you stand: what your Cherwell estate looks like today, what a realistic migration timeline involves, and what it would cost to wait.
How Pink Elephant can help
We’ve supported ITSM transitions for many years. Our team can assess your current Cherwell environment, help you build the business case for your next platform, and support you through implementation.
Cherwell replaced in 54 days. One of our clients moved off Cherwell onto a new ITSM platform in under two months, with the service desk running throughout. Read the case study.
If you’re not sure whether to migrate now or extend your current setup, that’s exactly the conversation worth having before the deadline forces the decision for you.
