Software Asset Management Assessment

Software Asset Management (SAM) comprises a set of practices, processes, and tools utilised by organisations to manage and optimise their software assets. It involves overseeing the acquisition, deployment, maintenance, utilisation, and disposal of software applications within an organisation. A key objective is to ensure software license compliance, enabling you to remain aligned with licensing agreements while mitigating risks associated with software management and maximising the value of your software investments.

Mainframe Management

Pink Elephant’s Software Asset Management assessment is an important auditing service that highlights software overspends and licence issues. We gain a clear view of the Software Asset Management capability and take the cultural climate into account. We conduct the assessment through structured interviews with both operational and strategic personnel. Drawing on these interviews, our experience, and our extensive ITIL® SAM knowledge base, a detailed assessment report will be produced outlining the capability and maturity of the Software Asset Management process areas. The report also contains high level recommendations on how to how to mature your processes, and how to demonstrate tangible improvements in service to the business. This service falls under our SAM Audit Services.

Approach

  1. Kick-off Presentation and Visioning: our consultant will facilitate a presentation to all stakeholders, identified interviewees and workshop participants to provide an understanding of the purpose, scope and objectives of the assessment. In addition, we will discuss the background and drivers for this assessment as well as the current organisational structure. We will determine the interviewees for each session and agree on the desired ‘future state’.
  2. Assessment: the Pink Elephant consultant will facilitate a series of assessment meetings to explore the best practice processes that underpin Software Asset Management. The following categories will be evaluated: 
  1. Software Asset Overall Management. 
  2. Software Asset Logistics Process.
  3. Software Asset Relationship Process. 
  4. Software Asset Verification Compliance. 
  5. Core Asset Management. 

In addition, we will review which tools currently support the process and, where relevant and time permits, examine documentation outside the workshops.

  1. Gap Analysis: identification of the gaps that exist between the current and future state. They will also provide snapshot of the current state as exists in the organisation at the time of the audit. 
  2. Roadmap Development: an inventory of recommended actions to be taken to overcome the gaps identified.
